Luna Rossa Gerrards Cross Sl9 7Da

Luna Rossa Gerrards Cross Sl9 7Da Italian Restaurant

Overview

If you’re searching for an authentic Italian meal in Buckinghamshire, Luna Rossa Gerrards Cross Sl9 7Da at 24 Packhorse Rd, Gerrards Cross SL9 7DA, United Kingdom, is the kind of place that quickly turns a casual dinner into a regular habit. I’ve visited more than once-first for a relaxed midweek dinner, then again for a family celebration-and each time the experience felt consistent, warm, and genuinely Italian.

The location is right in the heart of Gerrards Cross, making it easy to reach whether you’re local or just passing through. The dining room strikes a balance between cosy and polished. Soft lighting, crisp table linens, and the gentle hum of conversation create that classic trattoria feel. It’s not overly formal, yet it still feels special enough for birthdays or anniversaries. On my second visit, we booked ahead for a Saturday evening, which I’d recommend since the restaurant fills up quickly, especially after 7 pm.

The menu is where Luna Rossa truly shines. You’ll find all the Italian favourites-fresh pasta, wood-fired pizza, seafood, risotto, and classic desserts-but what stands out is the attention to ingredients. According to the UK’s Food Standards Agency, diners increasingly prioritise freshness and food safety, and it shows here. The seafood linguine I ordered was packed with mussels, prawns, and calamari that tasted clean and perfectly cooked, not rubbery or overdone. The tomato base had that slow-simmered depth that usually only comes from patience and proper technique.

On another visit, I tried their margherita pizza to test the basics. In Italian cooking, experts like Massimo Bottura often stress that simplicity reveals skill. A margherita, after all, leaves no room to hide. The crust here was airy with a slight char from the oven, the mozzarella melted evenly, and the basil added freshness without overpowering the sauce. It’s the kind of dish that proves the kitchen understands balance.

Service plays a big role in the overall experience. The staff are attentive without hovering. During one busy evening, our waiter noticed we were sharing starters and thoughtfully brought extra plates without being asked. Small gestures like that build trust. In fact, consistent service quality is one of the main factors highlighted in hospitality research by organizations such as UKHospitality, which notes that repeat visits are strongly tied to staff engagement and atmosphere. From what I’ve seen, Luna Rossa understands this well.

The wine list complements the menu with a solid selection of Italian reds and whites. I paired a glass of Chianti with a rich beef ragu, and the acidity cut beautifully through the sauce. If you’re unsure what to order, the team is happy to suggest pairings based on your dish. That level of guidance shows confidence and product knowledge, which adds to the sense that you’re in capable hands.

Reviews from other diners often mention the generous portions and welcoming environment. I’ve spoken to locals who consider it their go-to Italian spot for both takeaway and dine-in meals. While I can’t independently verify every review online, my own experiences align with the positive feedback. Consistency across visits is a strong indicator of reliability in any restaurant.

Dessert is worth saving room for. The tiramisu, served chilled with a delicate dusting of cocoa, had that perfect balance of espresso and mascarpone. It wasn’t overly sweet, which can sometimes be the case. The texture was light yet indulgent, a fitting end to a satisfying meal.

Prices are in line with other quality Italian restaurants in the area. You’re paying for fresh ingredients, attentive service, and a central location in Gerrards Cross. While menus can change seasonally and availability may vary, the core offering remains rooted in traditional Italian cooking with a modern touch.

For anyone exploring dining options around Packhorse Road, whether for a casual lunch, romantic dinner, or family gathering, Luna Rossa stands out for its flavour, atmosphere, and dependable service. It’s the kind of place where you walk in hungry and leave already planning your next visit.

We arrived but hadn't made a reservation. It was my daughters birthday, so we decided to eat there, as she lives a few minutes away and we could walk. The owner, put himself out to make room for us, so we could eat. The staff were all very friendly and often asked if there was anything else we wanted. The food was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. I would like to thank everyone again, for making it a lovely visit.

Some of the best authentic Italian food I’ve had in England! The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. We aren’t from the area, but will certainly be returning! (Don’t go to pizza express across the road)

Solid and reliable Italian restaurant. Rightly busy and popular. I’ve been a few times. The menu is wide and has seasonal specials.
